Iran Supreme Leader Warns of 'Much Wider' War if US Renews Attacks, Dismisses Hopes of Policy Shift

Mojtaba Khamenei says those expecting a change in Washington's approach or believing concessions could end US hostility towards Tehran are 'seriously mistaken'

TEHRAN: Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei has warned that any renewed US military aggression against the Islamic Republic would trigger a much wider regional conflict, while dismissing as "seriously mistaken" those expecting a change in Washington's policy following political developments in the United States.

"Should such aggressions be repeated, its (the war) scope will become much wider," said Khamenei, who has yet to appear in public since he took office in March, in a written message posted on his official website.

Iran's supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei said that anyone expecting a shift in US policy was "seriously mistaken", a day after US midterm elections dealt a blow to US President Donald Trump.

"Those who still harbour even the slightest hope that the behaviour of the hegemonic system might change through partisan or factional shifts, or who imagine that making concessions to the United States can dissuade it from hostility towards the Iranian nation, are seriously mistaken," he said in a written statement published on his website.
