TEHRAN: Iran has appreciated Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni acknowledging the role of Pakistan’s civil and military leadership in advancing regional peace.
The appreciation was conveyed during a meeting between Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and his Pakistani counterpart, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who arrived in Tehran on Monday for talks on bilateral relations and cooperation.
According to the Pakistani Interior Ministry, the two ministers discussed Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations, the latest regional situation and progress in ongoing cooperation between the interior ministries of the two countries in various sectors.
During the meeting, Momeni thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts towards promoting peace and stability in the region.
“We are grateful for Pakistan’s continuous efforts to establish peace in the region,” the Iranian minister said, adding that the Pakistani minister’s visit would prove beneficial.
Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations with Iran, expressing the resolve that ties between the two neighbouring countries would become stronger in the future.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review progress on ongoing cooperation between the interior ministries, with both sides discussing ways to further enhance coordination in areas of mutual interest.
Naqvi was received at Tehran airport by his Iranian counterpart upon his arrival, according to Iranian state media.
Iranian media reports said the Pakistani minister’s visit was focused on bilateral relations and cooperation. Iranian news agency reported that the visit was not linked to the Iran-US issue and that Naqvi was neither carrying a message to Tehran nor expected to receive a message for Washington.
The visit comes as Pakistan continues its diplomatic engagement with Iran amid heightened regional tensions. Pakistan has previously played a role in facilitating dialogue and supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region.
In July, Momeni visited Pakistan, where he held talks with Naqvi on bilateral relations, trade, regional developments and avenues for enhanced cooperation. The latest meeting in Tehran reflects continued engagement between the two countries on bilateral and regional issues, with both sides reiterating their commitment to strengthening cooperation and maintaining close ties.
