Bangladesh Politics Enters New Era: JI President Dr. Shafiqur Rahman Congratulates Tarique Rahman

Reaffirms his party’s vision of building Bangladesh free from fascism, sovereign in decision-making, grounded in justice

DHAKA: In a significant political development, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, extended advance congratulations to Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, on his election as the incoming Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

In a post shared on his official X account, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman described Tarique Rahman’s visit to his residential office as a significant milestone in the political journey of Bangladesh, reflecting a spirit of dialogue, responsibility, and institutional maturity. He expressed optimism that this engagement would open a new chapter founded on mutual respect, democratic norms, and constructive political cooperation.

The JI President reaffirmed his party’s vision of building a Bangladesh free from fascism, sovereign in decision-making, and grounded in justice. He stated that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, alongside its 11-party alliance, remains committed to establishing a prosperous, stable, and modern state rooted in constitutional governance and democratic values.

During their discussions, Tarique Rahman reportedly assured that steps are being taken to address incidents of post-election violence, including harm against opposition supporters and minority communities. Dr. Shafiqur Rahman welcomed this commitment, emphasizing that no citizen—regardless of political affiliation—should face intimidation or insecurity.

He further underscored that while Jamaat-e-Islami will fully cooperate on matters of national interest, it will also fulfill its constitutional duty as a firm and principled opposition. “Where the government acts in the public interest, we will support. Where accountability is required, we will speak,” he conveyed, adding that the objective is not confrontation but correction, not obstruction but oversight.

Concluding his message, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stressed that the people of Bangladesh deserve a parliament that safeguards justice, protects rights, and advances the nation with stability, transparency, and confidence.
