LAHORE: Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan appeared before the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Friday as part of an inquiry involving the forensic examination of his mobile phone, which was taken into the agency’s possession last month.
In its second notice, the NCCIA asked Rizwan to cooperate with officials in the forensic examination and analysis of the device seized from him. The cricketer was summoned under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. Media reports said a four-member NCCIA team, comprising a deputy director and three inspectors, would question Rizwan during the proceedings.
Rizwan declined to comment when reporters asked him about the purpose of his appearance and the nature of the inquiry. Asked about the allegations against him, he responded, “Ask them [NCCIA].” In a previous letter, Rizwan had requested the agency to provide written details of the inquiry and return his mobile phone.
Rizwan had earlier stated that NCCIA officials took possession of his phone in England on August 31 and that he provided its password at the time. He said the device was also examined in his presence.
He further maintained that when he appeared before the NCCIA on September 10, officials had access to his unlocked phone and were able to inspect messages and other material stored on the device.
