DURHAM: England have named their playing XI for the opening match of the five-match T20I series against India, scheduled to take place at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday.
The hosts have made two changes to the side that bowed out to India in the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Fast bowler Saqib Mahmood replaces Jamie Overton, while left-arm pacer Luke Wood comes in for Jofra Archer.
Archer and fellow seamer Josh Tongue have been rested following England's recent Test commitments against New Zealand.
The series will be another major test for captain Harry Brook, who guided England to the T20 World Cup semi-finals and has also been mentioned as a potential future Test captain.
Ahead of the opening match, Brook reiterated that his primary focus remains representing England and explained why he has chosen to avoid most franchise leagues around the world.
"I've committed myself fully to England cricket. Everything I do is aimed at performing for England, which is why I don't take part in most franchise tournaments," Brook said.
The 26-year-old added that the breaks in his schedule allow him to focus on fitness and prepare for the demands of all three international formats.
"Having time away from franchise cricket helps me stay fresh and get ready for all formats of the game. Playing for England has always been my dream," he added.
Brook also played down discussions surrounding England's future Test captaincy, saying that simply wearing the national colours remains his greatest ambition.
