“Put Humanity First”: Cricket Legends Unite in Emotional Plea for Urgent Medical Care for Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: In an extraordinary and emotionally charged appeal that rises above politics, Pakistan’s cricketing greats have united to demand immediate medical care for former Prime Minister and national hero Imran Khan.

Calling it a matter of humanity, not politics, the cricket legends stressed that the man who once carried the nation’s hopes on his shoulders must not be denied his fundamental right to proper healthcare.

Imran Khan, who etched his name into history by leading Pakistan to its only 50-over World Cup triumph at the 1992 Cricket World Cup at Melbourne, remains one of the country’s most revered sporting icons. His leadership united the nation in one of its proudest moments — a memory that still inspires millions.

Now, as concerns intensify over his health, former captains Younis Khan, Wasim Akram, Ramiz Raja and Waqar Younis — along with flamboyant all-rounder Shahid Afridi and the “Rawalpindi Express” Shoaib Akhtar — have united in a powerful appeal, demanding urgent and immediate medical attention for their former captain.

Younis Khan urged the authorities to rise above political differences and ensure that the cricket legend receives the best possible medical treatment without any delay.

In a post on X, the former captain described the matter as a purely humanitarian appeal, stressing that it transcends politics and division. He wrote that Imran Khan — who led Pakistan to its only 50-over World Cup triumph at the 1992 Cricket World Cup — has been a lasting source of inspiration and gave the nation one of its proudest sporting moments.

“Today, he needs urgent medical care,” Younis stated. “Humanity and respect for our sports heroes must come first.”

In a heartfelt post on X, Wasim Akram expressed deep concern over his former captain’s condition, saying it was “heartbreaking” to hear that Imran Khan is going through health issues.

“I sincerely hope the authorities take this seriously and ensure he receives the best possible medical care,” Akram wrote. “Wishing him strength, a speedy recovery, and a full return to good health.”

In his post on X, Waqar Younis made an emotional appeal, urging authorities to put politics aside and prioritize the health of Imran Khan.

“Our national hero, who gave us our greatest glory on the sporting field and built a cancer hospital that helped so many — including my own mother — is suffering a health emergency and requires urgent treatment,” Waqar wrote.

“I humbly request the concerned authorities to ensure he receives appropriate medical care in a timely manner. Get well soon, skipper. Wishing him a complete and speedy recovery.”

In a deeply emotional post on X, Ramiz Raja expressed anguish over the condition of Imran Khan, saying that seeing his former captain suffer — and reportedly lose sight in one eye — was nothing short of “an emotional meltdown.” “I hope humanity prevails and his suffering is reduced,” Ramiz wrote.

In his post on a X, Shoaib Akhtar revealed that over the past three months he has been in the United States raising funds for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, the charitable institution founded by Imran Khan.

“I’m deeply saddened to hear the news of him losing vision in his eye,” Akhtar said. “I hope he receives the best possible treatment, and I’m wishing him a speedy recovery.”

In a viral video clip circulating on social media, Shahid Afridi echoed similar sentiments, stressing that access to healthcare is a basic and fundamental right. Afridi emphasized that Imran Khan must be provided immediate medical facilities in accordance with his own wishes and those of his family.

The appeal has resonated widely among cricket fans and the general public, who view Imran Khan not only as a political figure but as the captain who inspired a generation and brought immense pride to Pakistan on the global stage.
