Superkai-Khujal Khel Land Dispute: Major Breakthrough as Administration Moves to Defuse Tensions

Hamid Khan Wazir

SHAKAI: A major breakthrough has emerged in the ongoing land dispute between Superkai and Khujal Khel, with Assistant Commissioner Rizwan arriving in Shakai Tehsil, Lower South Waziristan District, and engaging with the situation on the ground, raising hopes for a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict.

The presence and direct intervention of the Assistant Commissioner have generated fresh hopes for a breakthrough in the dispute, as efforts are now focused on resolving the matter through dialogue, mutual consultation and the traditional jirga process.

With the jirga proceedings underway, both sides have agreed to maintain a ceasefire, helping prevent any further escalation and creating a conducive environment for negotiations. The parties are also expected to vacate bunkers tomorrow as part of the ongoing de-escalation efforts.

The jirga, headed by Malik Saeed Anwar Mehsud, is continuing its efforts to broker an amicable settlement. Elders from Wana, Malikshahi and Mehsud tribes, along with Tehsildar Wana Zafar, SHO Shakai Muhammad Ismail Khan, SHO Sadiq and Levies official Qutb Khan, are participating in the proceedings.

Earlier, Jirga head Malik Saeed Anwar said that both sides were fully cooperating with the jirga and had expressed strong confidence in its members, hoping that they would succeed in finding a peaceful, lasting and durable solution to the conflict.

All stakeholders have been urged to demonstrate maximum restraint, patience and responsibility and to extend full cooperation to the jirga and administration. Maintaining peace and law and order remains essential to ensuring that the dispute is resolved without further tension or confrontation.

The active involvement of the administration, coupled with the jirga process and cooperation from both sides, has raised hopes that the longstanding dispute can be settled peacefully and through mutual understanding.

If the current ceasefire and dialogue process continues, the latest developments could mark an important step toward restoring lasting peace, stability and harmony between the two sides.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of the National Assembly from Lower South Waziristan, Zubair Khan Wazir, had already announced that he would visit Tehsil Shakai and join the ongoing jirga if the land dispute between the Superkai and Khujal Khel tribes was not resolved peacefully within the next one or two days.

Zubair Wazir said he was in constant contact with the district administration, the District Police Officer and tribal elders. He urged both sides to maintain the ceasefire, exercise restraint and give the jirga a full opportunity to resolve the dispute through dialogue and mutual understanding.
