ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Germany have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a renewed focus on trade, investment, energy and green technologies, as Pakistan’s newly appointed ambassador Salman Sharif presented his diplomatic credentials to German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

During a meeting following the credential presentation, Ambassador Sharif conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Asif Ali Zardari, the prime minister and the people of Pakistan to the German president.

The discussions underscored the importance of expanding cooperation across key sectors and building on the longstanding partnership between the two countries, particularly as Pakistan and Germany mark the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

The meeting also marked 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Germany, with the upcoming visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to Germany described as a significant milestone in efforts to further consolidate bilateral ties and strengthen engagement at the highest level.

President Steinmeier appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and welcomed President Zardari’s visit to Germany scheduled for this week, expressing confidence that high-level exchanges would provide fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation.

Both sides expressed hope that continued diplomatic engagement would further deepen the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Germany, while advancing shared interests through stronger economic ties, investment opportunities and cooperation in emerging technologies.

The credential presentation and subsequent meeting reflect the two countries’ commitment to sustaining close diplomatic engagement and exploring new avenues of cooperation amid their 75-year partnership.

It is pertinent to mention here that President Asif Ali Zardari will depart for Berlin on October 22 for a four-day official visit at the invitation of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The invitation was extended during diplomatic engagements held earlier this month to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Germany.

The visit will be the first by a Pakistani president to Germany in more than two decades. During his stay, President Zardari is scheduled to meet President Steinmeier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and business leaders to discuss bilateral cooperation and matters of mutual interest.

The talks are expected to cover regional and global developments, with the Pakistani leadership also set to brief its German counterparts on the evolving regional situation.
