Miftah Ismail Slams PPP Over ‘Universal Neglect’ of Sindh, Warns Smaller Provinces May Be Inevitable

ISLAMABAD: Former federal finance minister and Secretary-General of Awaam Pakistan Miftah Ismail has strongly criticized the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for what he described as “universal neglect,” accusing the party of gross incompetence, corruption, and systematic discrimination. He said the party has failed to provide basic civic services across Sindh — including its own stronghold, Larkana.
In a post on X, Miftah Ismail addressed Karachi residents who believe PPP deliberately neglects the metropolis, pointing to the condition of Larkana, the hometown of PPP founders Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, as evidence that the party’s failure in governance is province-wide rather than selective.
He stated that while PPP discriminates in government hiring by largely appointing Sindhi-speaking residents of Sindh — often through the alleged sale of jobs — it excludes Urdu-, Punjabi-, and Pashto-speaking Sindhis. However, when it comes to the provision of civic amenities, he said, the neglect is “universal across the entire province.”
Miftah Ismail warned that growing discussions about separating Karachi from Sindh stem directly from PPP’s poor governance, corruption, and discriminatory policies, rather than ethnic or political motivations.
Calling for urgent reforms, he stressed the need for better governance across Sindh and the establishment of empowered and fairly elected local governments. He cautioned that failure to address these issues could leave the country with no option but to move toward smaller administrative units across Pakistan.
