Lahore Wall Collapse Kills Child, Injures Four at Under-Construction Building

Staff Report

LAHORE: In another unfortunate incident, an eight-year-old boy lost his life and four others were injured after a wall of an under-construction building collapsed in Lahore's Baghbanpura area on Thursday, according to rescue officials.

The tragic incident comes just two days after a deadly roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore's Kahna area that claimed the lives of 14 children, raising fresh concerns over construction safety standards and building maintenance in the city.

Emergency services said the incident occurred around midday when a portion of the third floor of the building suddenly gave way, trapping several people beneath the debris.

Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the scene and launched an operation involving seven emergency vehicles and 25 rescue personnel. The body of the deceased child, identified as Abdullah, son of Amjad Butt, was recovered from the rubble.

The injured were identified as Wasim, 42, Shakeel, 38, Nadeem, 35, and Faiz Ahmed, 32. All four were provided first aid at the site before being shifted to Services Hospital for further treatment.

According to rescue officials, one person remained trapped under the debris during the initial stages of the operation and was later pulled out by emergency responders.

Building and roof collapse incidents are frequently reported in Pakistan, often linked to weak safety measures, ageing structures and poor construction practices.
