PESHAWAR: The Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has unanimously passed a resolution tabled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), reaffirming its full support for the Islamabad Peace Dialogue as a significant and constructive initiative aimed at fostering regional peace, stability, and sustained diplomatic engagement.
This resolution duly recognises the substantial contributions of Imran Khan Niazi, Founder Chairman of PTI and former Prime Minister of Pakistan. It acknowledges his consistent advocacy for a foreign policy grounded in dialogue, diplomatic engagement, and peaceful coexistence among nations. The resolution further highlights his pivotal role during his tenure in advancing regional peace efforts, he actively promoted diplomatic engagement between regional powers, demonstrating Pakistan’s potential as a bridge-builder in the region, including his contribution to the Doha Process, and his landmark initiative in opening the Kartarpur Corridor, which stands as a historic symbol of interfaith harmony and enhanced people to people connectivity.
The Assembly has noted with appreciation that, despite his present incarceration, the vision and political philosophy articulated by Imran Khan regarding peace, dialogue, and regional stability continue to hold profound resonance in the national discourse. The resolution underscores that his long-standing advocacy for political dialogue as the only viable path to durable peace, along with his consistent caution that conflict merely aggravates poverty and human suffering, provides a coherent and enduring framework for contemporary peace endeavours.
The KP Assembly has expressed the firm view that, in order to enhance the inclusivity, credibility, and effectiveness of the Islamabad Peace Dialogue, it is essential that the vision, experience, and political mandate of Imran Khan be duly acknowledged and meaningfully integrated into the consultative and deliberative processes.
PTI welcomed the unanimous passage of this resolution tabled by its own members as a strong and principled affirmation of Imran Khan’s steadfast commitment to peace and diplomacy. It constitutes a clear national endorsement that the politics of exclusion and political victimisation cannot diminish the enduring relevance of his leadership and ideals.
In this regard, PTI notes the recent observations shared by Sulaiman Khan, son of Imran Khan, during his interview with international media. Sulaiman Khan disclosed that, during the recent peace talks in Islamabad, Imran Khan was permitted to meet his lawyer for the first time in several months. In a profound demonstration of his patriotism and sense of national responsibility, Imran Khan subsequently decided to call off a planned protest by his party. He prioritised the image of Pakistan and the pursuit of peace in the Middle East over his own personal circumstances and the concerns of his supporters.
These remarks by Imran Khan’s son eloquently reflect the depth of his father’s unwavering patriotism and selfless commitment to the nation. Even while enduring prolonged incarceration, Imran Khan continues to place the higher interests of Pakistan and regional peace above all personal considerations.
In light of the resolution adopted by KP Assembly and these significant developments, PTI reiterated its demand that the federal government should immediately incorporate the vision and mandate of Imran Khan into the Islamabad Peace Dialogue and all related regional peace initiatives.
The government should ensure the unconditional and immediate release of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi so that the nation may avail itself of his experienced and visionary leadership during this critical period and immediately cease all forms of political victimisation and engineering that continue to undermine Pakistan’s democratic institutions and diplomatic standing.
Sustainable peace and stability, both regionally and nationally, can only be realised through genuine dialogue, strict adherence to the rule of law, respect for the people’s mandate, and the full restoration of constitutional democratic governance.
PTI stands firmly in support of the spirit of this unanimous resolution tabled by its members in the KP Assembly and calls upon all stakeholders to respect the voice of the elected representatives of the province.
