Kot Lakhpat-Jailed PTI Leaders Urge Govt to Revisit Approach, Grant Qureshi Access to Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, currently unlawfully imprisoned at Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail, demanded that the government should reconsider its approach towards PTI and its illegally detained founder Imran Khan and grant PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi access to him to share their political perspective.

PTI leaders — Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, and Omar Sarfraz Cheema — made the remarks in a statement issued by PTI Central Media Department on Thursday.

In the continuation of their previous letter, the party jailed leadership emphasized that National interest demanded that the government should revisit its approach towards PTI and Imran Khan.

They demanded: “Give Kot Lakhpat access to Adyala, as Shah Mahmood Qureshi should be granted access to Imran Khan to share our political perspective.”

The statement reads, “Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan and PTI cannot abdicate its role of a responsible opposition.”

They expressed alarm that a prolonged regional conflict can have disastrous consequences for Pakistan’s economic security.

The party leadership warned that India’s aerial exercise along Pakistan’s border and Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel cannot be taken lightly.

They said that terrorism and TTP activities against Pakistan cannot be tolerated whereas the people of Afghanistan must be engaged and not alienated. The party leaders emphasized that national interest required national reconciliation.
