PTI founder transferred from Adiala Jail as CM Sohail Afridi says his family and personal doctors will be present during examination and treatment
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: In what appears to be a remarkable development, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan has been transferred to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for a medical check-up and treatment, following directions issued by the Supreme Court.
A heavily guarded convoy carrying Imran Khan left Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail shortly after midnight and arrived at the hospital, where extensive security arrangements had already been put in place.
Chief Minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi said that Imran Khan would undergo his medical examination and receive treatment in the presence of his family members and personal doctors.
Police and other security personnel were deployed in and around the hospital, while roads leading to the facility were placed under heightened security. The arrangements were made as the deadline set under the Supreme Court’s order for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital approached midnight.
The medical examination is expected to begin shortly, with further details regarding his health condition likely to emerge after the doctors complete their assessment.
