Staff Report

QUETTA: Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfraz Bugti has stepped up his government’s development and education agenda, ordering the speedy completion of ongoing projects under the Quetta Development Package and highlighting major gains in the drive to bring thousands of children back into classrooms across the province.

Officials informed the meeting that 12 projects under the Quetta Development Package had been completed, while work was currently under way on seven others. Five additional schemes have also been proposed under the package.

The Chief Minister directed the relevant authorities to accelerate work on all ongoing projects and ensure their timely completion. He also instructed officials to initiate work on the newly proposed schemes without delay.

Bugti stressed that Quetta is the face of Balochistan and that its development and beautification are closely linked to the province’s identity. He said the government was committed to utilizing all available resources to transform the provincial capital into a modern, well-organized and attractive city.

He said restoring Quetta’s former charm and preserving its historic character required a comprehensive and long-term strategy. Under this approach, practical measures would be taken to improve basic civic amenities, upgrade urban infrastructure and complete beautification projects on a priority basis.

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure quality, efficiency and transparency in all development projects, stressing that unnecessary delays would not be tolerated.

He reiterated the government’s resolve to develop Quetta into a city where citizens have access to improved civic facilities and where the provincial capital reflects both modern urban development and its rich cultural and historical heritage.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR) Qambar Khan Dashti, Finance Secretary Jehangir Khan, Project Director Rafiq Baloch and other relevant officials.

Meanwhile, in his message on World Literacy Day, CM Bugti said literacy was not merely the ability to read and write but the foundation of a brighter future for children, social progress and a prosperous society.

He said the Government of Balochistan had accorded high priority to education and was taking practical measures to improve the education system and revive inactive schools across the province.

Bugti said that over the past two years, more than 3,800 inactive schools had been reactivated, while 768,000 out-of-school children had been brought back into the education system.

He added that more than 2,000 new schools had been established through the Balochistan Education Foundation, while work was under way on projects for another 1,800 schools and the construction of 3,000 classrooms in existing educational institutions.

The Chief Minister said education was not merely another sector but the fundamental means of shaping Balochistan’s future. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that no child in the province was deprived of quality education and that the younger generation was equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to a prosperous and capable society.
