Staff Report

QUETTA: Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti on Tuesday reaffirmed the Balochistan government’s commitment to merit, transparency and equal opportunities, emphasizing concrete measures to unlock the potential of the province’s youth and equip them for future challenges.

The chief minister held separate meetings with provincial ministers, parliamentary secretaries, members of the provincial assembly, government officials, and political and social leaders. Discussions focused on the overall political situation in the province, progress on development projects, resolution of public issues, and efforts to strengthen good governance.

During the meetings, Bugti also met Mahnoor Baloch, a talented student from Balochistan who secured a position among the top ten candidates in the recent Central Superior Services (CSS) examination. Congratulating her on the remarkable achievement, he described her success as a matter of pride for the entire province and presented her with a commemorative souvenir.

“Students like Mahnoor Baloch represent the bright future of Balochistan and serve as an inspiration for other young people,” the chief minister said.

He stressed that the provincial government is committed to providing every possible facility and opportunity to students and young professionals in the fields of education, competitive examinations and career development, enabling them to excel and bring recognition to Balochistan at national and international levels.

Bugti reiterated that reforms based on merit, transparency and equal opportunity would remain a key priority of his government, ensuring that the talents and capabilities of the province’s youth are fully utilized for sustainable development.

Separately, while chairing a high-level meeting on challenges facing the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Makran in Panjgur, the chief minister reaffirmed the government’s resolve to strengthen higher education institutions and provide students with modern facilities in line with contemporary educational requirements.

The meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Education Raheela Hameed Durrani, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional Chief Secretary Planning and Development Zahid Saleem, Secretary Higher Education Muhammad Saleh Baloch, and Vice Chancellor of the University of Makran Professor Dr Saadat Baloch, who joined via video link.

Participants reviewed issues affecting the Computer Sciences Department and discussed measures to improve academic standards and teaching quality. The meeting decided to appoint a PhD-qualified chairman and two lecturers on an immediate basis, while the recruitment process for permanent faculty members would also be expedited to strengthen the department and ensure quality education.

Directing officials to take prompt action, Bugti said all necessary steps should be completed without delay to enhance academic standards in universities, particularly in critical fields such as Information Technology and Computer Sciences.

He emphasized that empowering Balochistan’s youth with modern knowledge, technical expertise and digital skills is among the government’s top priorities, adding that negligence or unnecessary delays in educational development would not be tolerated.

The chief minister further stated that the provincial government is pursuing practical and long-term reforms to address challenges facing educational institutions and ensure sustainable improvements in higher education across Balochistan.
