ISLAMABAD: The leadership of Awaam Pakistan, led by former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former finance minister Miftah Ismail, has announced that the party will join the opposition alliance Tehreek Tahafuz-i-Ayeen Pakistan’s (TTAP) sit-in outside Parliament House in solidarity over concerns regarding Imran Khan’s health.

The peaceful protest is being staged in response to reports of severe deterioration in PTI founder Imran Khan’s eyesight and the government’s alleged refusal to allow access to his personal physicians and family members.

Dr Zafar Mirza, central spokesperson for Awaam Pakistan, said in a post on X that the party would fully participate in the demonstration.

“Imran Khan’s eyesight is at risk without urgent medical treatment. Awaam Pakistan is part of the peaceful protest of Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan and will remain present until he receives the medical care he legally deserves,” he stated.

He further announced that Awaam Pakistan would join the sit-in outside Parliament House immediately after Friday prayers.

“We firmly believe in the rule of law, constitutional rights of the people, free and fair elections, and true democracy. We will always stand with the people in their struggle for these principles,” the statement added.

However, later in the day, Awaam Pakistan Secretary General Miftah Ismail clarified in a post on X that Dr Mirza had rushed to Lahore to attend the Namaz-i-Janaza of the party’s founder and Punjab convenor, Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri.

“But he will attend the dharna tomorrow (Saturday) morning,” Ismail added.
